There’s a quiet trap that many fall into: thinking that if you’re not “qualified enough,” then you must not be called. That if the résumé doesn’t read like everyone else’s, or if your credentials don’t make heads nod in approval, then maybe you should just stay in the background.

But let me tell you something loud and clear: you’re called—even when you’re not qualified by the world’s standards.

God’s calling doesn’t come with a résumé requirement. It comes with a purpose.

Think about it—David wasn’t the tallest or the strongest. He was the youngest. Overlooked. Left tending sheep while his brothers stood in line to be anointed. And yet God told Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height… The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV)

God saw something in David’s heart that no résumé could capture.

That same grace still speaks for people like you and me today. People who may not have the titles, the polished speaking skills, the seminary degrees, or the perfect track record—but who have a “yes” in their spirit. And God will always do more with a surrendered heart than a stacked résumé.

I’ve sat in rooms where I felt unqualified. I’ve preached sermons wondering if someone else could’ve said it better. I’ve coached, led, and served in spaces where I knew I didn’t fit the mold. But here’s the truth: I wasn’t sent because I was the most polished—I was sent because I was chosen. Grace sent me.

And grace is enough.

That doesn’t mean we stop growing or sharpening our tools. Study. Practice. Prepare. But don’t let your qualifications define your calling. Your degree didn’t save you. Your experience didn’t heal you. It was God. And He doesn’t call the qualified—He qualifies the called.

So if you’re waiting until you’re “ready” to walk in your purpose, can I be honest? You might never feel ready. But being called isn’t about feeling ready—it’s about trusting the One who called you in the first place.

If God said “go,” then go.
If He said “speak,” then speak.
If He said “build,” then build.

Because when heaven assigns it, no boardroom, no committee, and no critic can disqualify it.
