Text: Jeremiah 30:17 (NIV)
“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord, “because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.”
What Does It Mean to Live Like Someone Who is Being Restored?
Restoration isn’t just about waiting for God to fix everything—it’s about stepping into the process with faith and expectation. Many of us believe that God can restore, but we don’t always act like it.
If you’ve been hurt, if you’ve lost time to mistakes, or if you’re struggling to move forward, how do you start living like someone who is being restored—even before you see the full results?
Here’s what that looks like:
1. Speak and Think Differently
How we talk about ourselves and our situations matters. If God has promised restoration, then our words should reflect that truth.
❌ What NOT to say:
- “I’ll never get over this.”
- “I’m too messed up for God to use me.”
- “There’s no way my life can improve.”
✅ What TO say:
- “God is restoring me, even if I don’t see it yet.”
- “Healing takes time, but I trust God’s process.”
- “I am not my past—God is making all things new.”
🔎 Why does this matter?
Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” What we speak over ourselves can either reinforce our brokenness or align us with God’s promise.
2. Adjust Your Posture and Attitude
Restoration is not just about waiting—it’s about preparing. If you believe God is restoring you, start acting like it.
- If you’ve been broken by relationships, don’t isolate yourself—start building connections again.
- If you’ve been struggling spiritually, don’t wait to “feel better” before you pray—open the Bible and spend time with God now.
- If you’ve been discouraged, stop walking around like defeat is your destiny—lift your head and walk in expectation.
📌 Example:
Someone who believes they’re being restored doesn’t carry themselves like a victim—they walk with the confidence that God is doing a new thing.
3. Walk in Obedience
Sometimes restoration is waiting on our next step of obedience.
Ask yourself: What is God asking me to do right now?
- Forgive someone? Unforgiveness can block restoration.
- Let go of a toxic habit? You can’t heal while holding onto what’s breaking you.
- Step into something new? God’s restoration often comes with an invitation to trust Him in new ways.
🔎 James 2:26 says, “Faith without works is dead.” Living like someone who is being restored means acting on faith, even before you see the full picture.
4. Take Small but Bold Steps
Restoration doesn’t happen overnight, but every step you take gets you closer to wholeness.
✅ Emotionally? Start journaling, seeking wise counsel, and letting God heal past wounds.
✅ Spiritually? Stay in the Word, pray, and surround yourself with people who encourage your faith.
✅ Physically? Take care of your body as an act of self-worth and stewardship.
📌 Example:
If you believe God is restoring your confidence, don’t wait until you feel “fully healed” to take action. Apply for that job, speak up in that meeting, or take that opportunity as if your restoration is already happening—because it is!
5. Celebrate Progress, Not Just the End Result
Zechariah 4:10 reminds us, “Do not despise these small beginnings.”
God’s restoration is often gradual, not instant—but every small step is worth celebrating.
- Did you forgive a little more today than yesterday? That’s progress.
- Did you step out of your comfort zone in faith? That’s growth.
- Did you resist the urge to dwell on the past? That’s healing.
Instead of waiting for everything to be perfect, thank God for what He’s already done—because gratitude fuels restoration.
Final Thought: Live Like It’s Already Happening
God has already declared your restoration. You don’t have to wait until everything looks perfect to start living like it’s true.
✅ Speak restoration over your life.
✅ Adjust your posture and expectations.
✅ Take small but bold steps of obedience.
✅ Celebrate progress, no matter how small.
Restoration isn’t just about what God will do—it’s about how we position ourselves to receive it.
What area of your life do you need restoration in today? Start living like it’s happening, because with God, it already is.
