– Silence is sometimes spiritual warfare.
There are some things you want to say that might feel good in the moment—but would cost you something deeper: your peace, your witness, or even your spiritual growth.
Sometimes the holiest thing you can do is say… nothing.
That doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’ve learned the strength it takes to not be drawn into a battle of the flesh when God is already fighting a war in the spirit. Holding your tongue doesn’t make you passive—it makes you spiritually aware.
There were moments in my life when I wanted to retaliate, speak my truth, or make it clear how someone had affected me. But what would have come out of my mouth in those moments wouldn’t have been prayerful—it would have been toxic.
The truth is, some battles are won in silence.
Even Jesus, when falsely accused, said nothing (Matthew 27:12-14). Not because He didn’t have a defense—but because the mission was more important than the argument.
Sometimes your silence is not surrender. It’s strategy. It’s you stepping out of the ring and letting God handle what you don’t have the strength—or the sanctification—to say without sin.
So if you’re in a season where you’re holding back your words, you’re not alone. You’re not losing. You’re growing.
Let the Holy Spirit guide your responses. And when He urges you to be still, understand that silence might just be your most powerful statement.
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:14, CSB
