Recently, I came across a short video on YouTube that really made me think. You can check it out for yourself here:

Now, I’ll be honest — the video itself isn’t particularly spiritual. It doesn’t quote scripture or directly preach. But the message it delivers? It’s true. And not just true in a motivational sense — it lines up with the eternal truths found in God’s Word.
The core message was simple and bold:
“Fear is a liar.”
That alone caught my attention, because as a pastor, a father, and a man who’s walked through fear plenty of times, I know that’s the truth. Fear lies about who you are, what you can do, and how your story will end. And when fear speaks, if we don’t recognize it for what it is, we’ll believe the lie.
What Fear Loves to Say
In the video, the speaker calls out fear’s lies directly:
“Fear will lie to you and tell you that you’re not smart enough.”
“Fear will lie to you and tell you that you’re not strong enough.”
“Fear will lie to you and tell you that you don’t have what it takes.”
I could almost hear the enemy’s voice behind those words, because these are the exact kinds of lies the devil whispers when we’re facing challenges. But God’s Word already gives us the truth to counter every single one.
Lie #1: You’re not smart enough.
God’s Truth:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault.” (James 1:5 NIV)
Fear says you’re too ignorant to succeed. God says He gives wisdom freely to those who ask. You’re not walking in your own knowledge—you have access to divine insight.
Lie #2: You’re not strong enough.
God’s Truth:
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13 NIV)
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.” (Psalm 28:7 NIV)
Fear wants you focused on your weakness. God calls you to focus on His strength, which never runs out.
Lie #3: You don’t have what it takes.
God’s Truth:
“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24 NIV)
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV)
Fear says you’re underqualified. God says you’re already equipped because He handcrafted you for the purpose you’re walking into.
Fear Wants to Rob You of Your Destiny
The video makes another powerful point:
“Fear tries to paralyze you. Fear tries to rob you of your destiny.”
That’s 100% true — and it’s spiritual warfare. The enemy uses fear to freeze you in place, keeping you from stepping into the plans God has for you. But scripture reminds us:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV)
If God didn’t give you fear, then fear has no right to rule you.
When Fear Speaks, Talk Back
One of my favorite parts of the video was this instruction:
“When fear tries to talk to you, talk back to it with truth.”
That’s not just motivational advice — that’s straight-up biblical strategy. When the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus didn’t sit in silence. He answered every lie with scripture (Matthew 4:1-11). That’s how you fight fear—with God’s Word.
- When fear says, “You’re alone in this,” say:
“Do not fear, for I am with you.” (Isaiah 41:10 NIV) - When fear says, “This will break you,” say:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14 NIV) - When fear says, “You’re too broken to be used,” say:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18 NIV)
Faith and Fear Both Ask You to Believe Something You Can’t See
The video’s closing thought is one we all need to sit with:
“Instead of focusing on fear, focus on faith.”
That’s real. Both fear and faith require you to believe in something you can’t see. Fear asks you to believe in disaster. Faith asks you to believe in God’s promises.
That’s why God told Joshua:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NIV)
Courage doesn’t mean you never feel fear. It means you choose to move forward anyway, because you trust the One who’s walking with you.
Fear is a Liar—But God is the Truth
So today, I want to challenge you the same way that video challenged me:
- When fear speaks, talk back.
- When fear lies, declare truth.
- When fear says you can’t, remember that God says you can.
Fear is a liar—but the truth of God stands forever.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, I thank You for the truth of Your Word, which exposes every lie fear tries to tell me. When fear speaks, remind me to answer with scripture. When fear says I’m not enough, remind me that through You, I can do all things. I choose to focus on faith, not fear. I trust You to lead me forward, no matter how uncertain the road ahead may feel. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
