– Spiritual intimacy is more than just being “equally yoked.”
There’s a difference between someone who includes you in their prayers and someone who includes you in their prayer life.
It’s not just about saying your name in passing before God—it’s about holding your hand when you’re weary, or sending you a verse when they know you’re barely hanging on. It’s about spiritual presence, not just partnership.
You can be equally matched in theory but still spiritually distant in practice.
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them.”
— Matthew 18:20 (CSB)
The goal isn’t just to find someone who believes in God. It’s about finding someone who believes with you. Someone who intercedes for you without being asked. Someone who doesn’t just pray about your struggle—but sits beside you in it and prays through it. That’s not just compatibility. That’s covering.
It’s finding someone who believes with you.
Someone who advocates for you without needing to be asked.
Someone who doesn’t just pray **about** your struggle—but sits beside you in it, and prays **through** it.
That’s not just compatibility. That’s protection.
A New Kind of Intimacy
Spiritual intimacy emerges in the moments that don’t make it to Instagram.
Like when you both quietly fast for a decision you’re waiting on.
Or when one of you feels off—and instead of asking “what’s wrong,” they just whisper, “Let’s pray.”
There’s a type of closeness that is born in the Spirit before it appears in the schedule.
A kind of chemistry that comes from heaven—not just from shared interests.
Because when someone prays with you, they’re aligning with heaven regarding your life.
They’re saying, “I don’t just want what’s best for us—I want what God wants for us.”
Prayer Isn’t Performance
Let’s be honest—some people pray well but don’t love well.
Their prayers sound poetic, but their hearts don’t lean in.
They use spiritual words, but don’t walk in spiritual alignment.
The proof of prayer isn’t performance.
It’s presence.
Are they still there when it’s messy?
When God hasn’t said yes yet?
When grief shows up before the blessing does?
You’ll know the difference between someone who’s praying for you from a distance,
and someone who’s praying with you in the trenches.
Before You Go
Spiritual intimacy isn’t about looking holy together.
It’s about becoming whole together.
Wait for the one who will:
- Stand in faith when you’ve got nothing left.
- Fast with you when the answer is unclear.
- Remind you of the Word when your mind is all over the place.
- Praise with you like they were waiting too.
Because the one who prays with you,
is the one who knows your name not just before God,
but before purpose.
And that’s the kind of love that doesn’t just survive storms.
It walks on water.
