What the Lord Says Overrules Every Season

Some days it’s the trouble that tries to name you. Other days it’s the blessings. And then there are those broken moments—the ones you’re embarrassed to even admit—that try to tattoo themselves on your identity. I’ve lived through all three, and I’ve learned something simple but freeing: none of these moments have the authority to define me. Only God does.

Identity becomes fragile when you hand it to temporary seasons. Trouble will convince you that you’re failing. Blessings can fool you into thinking you’ve finally arrived. Brokenness whispers that you’ll always be stuck right where you fell. But God’s Word is the only voice steady enough to hold you in every season.

Paul said it plainly in Philippians 4:11–13 (NLT):

“I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything… For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Paul wasn’t defined by the high moments or the low ones—he was defined by the Christ who carried him through both. And that’s the posture we’re called to hold.

I’ve had moments where I let my situation talk a little too loud. Trouble told me I wasn’t enough. Blessings told me I could relax and stop growing. Brokenness told me I’d never heal. But over time, I learned to go back to what God said—not what life said. God calls me His. God calls me loved. God calls me redeemed. His voice overrules every other one.

Maybe you’re in a place right now where trouble feels like your identity. Or maybe you’re blessed, but secretly afraid it won’t last. Or maybe you hit a place so low you thought, “This is who I am now.” But hear me: you are more than the moment you’re standing in. God never intended for a season to become your name.

When the Lord speaks, seasons bow. Trouble bows. Blessings bow. Brokenness bows. Because identity doesn’t rise from circumstance—it rises from truth. And the truth is, God never stops speaking life over His children.

Keep walking. Keep listening. Keep refusing to let anything temporary define what God established before you ever took your first breath.
