– Discernment is the difference between power and harm.

There’s a time to open your mouth and a time to hold your peace.
And the wisdom to know the difference? That’s where maturity, healing, and emotional strength reside.

Some of us grew up thinking silence meant weakness. Others were raised to speak up about everything—whether it built something or tore it down. But Scripture reminds us that “a word spoken at the right time is like gold apples in silver settings” (Proverbs 25:11, CSB). It’s not just about what we say—it’s about when we say it.

Let’s Be Honest:

Some of our deepest regrets weren’t just what we said—but when we said it.
Or perhaps you’ve held back when your voice could’ve made all the difference.

Wisdom doesn’t mean always having the right words.
Wisdom is knowing when your words will heal and when they will harm.
Discernment isn’t passive—it’s protective.

Pause. Ask. Then Proceed.

Before you speak:

  • Is it true?
  • Is it necessary?
  • Is it seasoned with grace?
  • Will it build or bruise?

And before you keep quiet:

  • Am I avoiding truth that needs to be spoken?
  • Am I withholding peace by not sharing wisdom?

Ecclesiastes 3:7 says there’s “a time to be silent and a time to speak.” Discernment is what teaches us the season.
