Stop Expecting Old Comfort in New Seasons

Sometimes peace comes after the discomfort of letting go.

There’s a strange kind of grief that comes when things finally start going well—but they don’t feel familiar. You prayed for a shift, begged for the pain to stop, hoped for the next chapter… but now that it’s here, why does it still feel uncomfortable?

Because peace in a new season doesn’t always feel like the comfort of the last one.

Sometimes it feels like silence after years of noise. Like calm after constant battles. Like joy that arrives awkward and uncertain—because your body has forgotten how to receive it.

If you’re trying to feel God the same way you used to… stop. If you’re trying to measure peace by old rhythms… stop. That old comfort was for an old season. This new one will teach you how to breathe again—but not with the same lungs.

Isaiah 43:18–19 (CSB) best expresses this: “Do not remember the past events; pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new…”

New doesn’t mean worse. It just means unfamiliar.

Letting go isn’t just about what you walked away from—it’s about loosening your grip on how you used to feel God, love others, or define peace.

You are healing, and healing rarely feels like home at first.

It may come in quiet mornings, long walks, or laughter that surprises you. It may look like new people, new boundaries, or new ways of being seen. Don’t dismiss it because it doesn’t look like what you used to know.

Stop expecting old comfort in new seasons.

That version of you needed softness for survival. This version needs strength for what’s next. And God is in *both.*

You’re not crazy for missing what once brought you comfort. But don’t get stuck trying to recreate old memories while God is busy writing a new promise.

The blessing may feel strange right now. But if you sit with it long enough—and it might just start to feel like peace.
