As believers, we’re called to grow in every area of our lives—spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. This growth doesn’t stop with age; in fact, it’s something we are encouraged to pursue lifelong. Scripture is filled with reminders that wisdom, knowledge, and understanding are treasures to seek continually, and this applies not only to spiritual growth but to our ability to engage with the world around us, including technology. Today, learning is accessible to anyone, anywhere, thanks to online platforms that allow us to pursue knowledge in ways previously unimaginable.
Lifelong Learning in Scripture
Scripture tells us that gaining knowledge is a pursuit we should never abandon. Proverbs 1:5 (NIV) states, “Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.” This verse doesn’t qualify the wise by age but encourages anyone seeking wisdom to keep listening, discerning, and learning. God’s wisdom is inexhaustible, and He calls us to keep growing regardless of our stage in life.
Another powerful example is found in Philippians 1:9-10 (NIV), where Paul prays, “that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.” Here, Paul speaks to the Philippians about continually growing in knowledge—not only about the gospel but in understanding the world around them, making decisions with insight and depth. This principle encourages us to keep seeking, learning, and sharpening our skills so that we can better navigate our world and fulfill our purpose.
Embracing New Skills and Technologies
Learning isn’t just about gaining new information; it’s about remaining adaptable and relevant. In a rapidly advancing world, staying up-to-date with technology can be intimidating, but it’s also essential. Imagine the Apostle Paul in today’s context. He was a well-read, educated man who adapted to different cultures to spread the gospel. If he were alive today, he would likely use every modern tool available to reach people. Similarly, we’re called to leverage technology to stay connected, informed, and effective in our callings.
Embracing technology doesn’t mean abandoning traditional ways; instead, it adds tools to our toolkit. Whether you’re learning how to use a new app, navigating virtual meetings, or taking an online course, each skill you acquire can equip you to serve God and others better. As Proverbs 4:7 (NIV) reminds us, “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” Wisdom is a treasure that may cost us time and effort, but the reward is profound.

Reflection: The Mindset of a Lifelong Learner
Choosing to be a lifelong learner requires humility, as it often means acknowledging that we don’t know it all. The Psalmist understood this when he said, “Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands” (Psalm 119:66, NIV). When we humble ourselves to learn, we acknowledge that God has so much more to teach us, whether through His Word or through the wisdom of others.
In a world that values comfort and familiarity, committing to lifelong learning keeps us open to growth, resilience, and wisdom. By choosing to learn continuously—whether it’s mastering a new technology, reading Scripture, or developing new skills—we’re honoring the gift of our minds and the opportunity God has given us to steward them.
A Personal Note
I recently picked up my Google Professional Workspace Administrator and Google Workspace Security certifications after years of first starting them and then stopping. But please, reader, continue pressing forward in learning. It’s worth taking the time.
So, let us be willing to learn at every stage of life, remembering that God equips us with knowledge, understanding, and wisdom so that we can better serve Him and others. Whether it’s delving into a new field, taking a class on modern technology, or simply studying His Word with fresh eyes, let’s embrace the journey of lifelong learning and inspire others to do the same.
